Commission a Sculpture or Painting

From conception to completion, Mic will work together with you to bring an idea to reality. Whether you are commissioning a large or small, public or private sculpture or painting, the process remains the same. Payment structure varies between size, detail, and theme.

Things to Consider

Following are questions to consider for your new piece:

  1. What size would you like your piece to be?
  2. What medium would you like the final piece cast in?
Some commonly used casting materials for sculptures are bronze, cold cast bronze, and cold cast stone and resin. Paintings are signed limited-edition Giclee prints, some with hand-embellishment options.
  3. What is your budget?
If your budget is tight, Mic may be able to work with you to help decrease your costs.
  4. What is your deadline?

Mic will provide a quote for the final sculpture or painting. The quote is an in-depth explanation of what the client should expect and will receive as an end product. For sculptures, the quote also includes the estimated cost which is determined by a piece's unique configuration, size and proportion and, therefore, varies for each piece. The timeline, however, is based on the foundry’s schedule so consult with Mic on exactly how long you have to decide without affecting the timeline and pricing.

Note regarding large sculptures:  For life-sized or larger sculptures, the foundry must be consulted and requires accurate measurements in all dimensions; height, width, depth, direction/movement of the piece as well as other factors to be able to calculate the total cost. Some clients commission Mic to create a maquette (a small model or sketch) of the idea to easier convey the concept to the comity or fundraising group.
